Brad “bebad” McCloud and his “Case of the Blues Band”.

The Case of the Blues Band consist of four seasoned musicians one of which "bebad" is a lifelong  poet/songwriter.

ON VOCALS, GUITAR, AND THE SONG WRITER FOR THE CASE OF THE BLUES

Brad “bebad” McCloud has been involved in music his whole life. His Grandfather was a minister and Brad was influenced with church music at a very early age. Brad was bounced around coming from a dysfunctional broken family and never was in one school more than two years, with the exception of his enrollment in the school of hard knocks. Brad is definitely a poet of the Hard Road. Brad got his first guitar when he was eight years old. In his teens he played and sang with several rock bands in northwest Iowa. He and his wife started a family at a very early age so he put his music aside, but not away. He continued to write songs and play for himself, his family, and all that would listen to him.  After two years in the army and 31 years on the railroad. Having raised his four children, his wife convinced him to give it another try. He has done more than try. Brad has performed in many venues in and around the state as well as the country. He and his band have competed and done well in several Iowa blues challenges. He competed in the 2008 solo/duo Iowa Blues Challenge with John Zantow and won! They represented Iowa in Memphis, Tennessee in the 2009 International Blues Challenge. Brad competed in the 2009 Iowa solo/duo Blues challenge as a solo artist and was a finalist again. His mission is to get his music out there!

ON PERCUSSION ...

David Meyer, “DJ” is a self taught drummer who first picked up the sticks as a junior in high school at the age of 19. He started playing in the first of a number of bands formed in the 70s and early 80s. Among these bands were Big zim, then big zimms  rock and roll band, the  good lickin’ blues band and nightwing. Busy working on the railroad and raising a family he hung up his sticks in 1983 and went 23 years without playing. Dave is a long time blues lover and a live entertainment supporter. In 2006  Brad “bebad” McCloud  talked him into dusting off his drum kit and giving the music another chance. Although very rusty he totally enjoyed it. And the journey with the case of the blues began.

ON KEYBOARDS, TRUMPET, AND BACKUP VOCALS

Rick Hahn joined the band in August of 2007 after taking 20 years off from gigging. Although he primarily plays Piano/organ for the “Case of the Blues”, Rick actually developed his musical talents on the trumpet while growing up in Las Vegas. Before transplanting to Iowa, he briefly lived in Seattle and was fortunate to score a couple of gigs with “A-listers” Diane Schuur and the Temptations way back in 1986. Now reincarnated as a keyboardist , Rick brings a jazz/fusion/big band influenced presence to his blues playing. Rick is a self-taught keyboardist, so all that horn stuff keeps creeping into his playing. The sharp attacks, syncopated licks and other 80's fusion/funk that he used to play on trumpet.  As stated by Rick himself, “ Brad-bebad has been especially helpful in my conversion to the Blues and I can’t thank him enough.”  I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to develop my chops while working with such a great group of self-taught musicians.

 ON BASS GUITAR ...

Kent Weaver is the newest member of the band joining the band in 2009. He is a multi-talented musician and award winning composer. He has written and worked on sound tracks for several movies produced right here in Iowa. He has done a great job filling in for the band when they were in a tight spot. He has developed into the go to guy for the foundation and thump for the Case of the Blues!
